Somatic Movement
What is somatic movement and how can it help you?
Somatic movement education incorporates body-oriented practices to help clients with emotional, mental, and physical symptoms.
These practices help clients learn to develop greater self-awareness and trust, emotional regulation skills, skillful movement patterns, and improved capacity for presence, self-advocacy, and resilience.
Somatic practices can help with:
- Feeling disconnected from your body
- Feeling disempowered by the medical system
- Chronic anxiety and stress
- Trauma symptoms
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic pain
- Fatigue
- Sensory processing challenges
- Headaches and migraines
And many other presenting symptoms
How to get started with somatic movement practices
Radiance Therapy & Wellness is a somatic occupational therapy practice based in San Luis Obispo, CA. We offer in-office, online, or in-home occupational therapy interventions.
Our somatic oriented programs generally start with curiosity questions and body inquiry about your presenting symptoms, goals and history. They also include body mapping to identify trailheads or indicators of parts of yourself that need attention and care.
A feminine, intuitive, and curious approach is used to provide facilitation of movement if indicated or placing your own hands on painful areas of your body. We enter into dialogue with the body and inner parts of yourself as a way to create space for inner wisdom to emerge.
When using these somatic methods, they have a profound ability to support nervous system regulation, reduce or eliminate pain, and allow you to feel more at home in your body.
