Myofascial Release
What is myofascial release and how can it help you?
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique (or self applied practice) that involves gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions in order to eliminate pain and restore motion.
This approach uses multiple kinds of techniques to release and soften these restrictions, rehydrate the fascia, and release the body’s natural anti-inflammatory response. With this work, pressure is taken off sensitive structures resulting in pain relief, improved body awareness, increased freedom of movement, and the activation of the relaxation response.
This therapy can help with:
- Back pain
- Headaches
- Pelvic pain
- Neck pain
- Sports injuries
- Chronic pain
- Disc problems
- Neurological dysfunction
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic fatigue
- Carpal tunnel
- Painful scars
- Scoliosis
- And many other conditions
How to get started with myofascial release therapy
Radiance Therapy & Wellness is a somatic occupational therapy practice based in San Luis Obispo, CA. We offer in-office, online, or in-home wellness programs.
Myofascial release therapy can be incorporated as one part of your program. Or, it can be the primary focus of your care based on your goals and needs.
If you are receiving the care in person, myofascial release consists of low-load (gentle) hands on connective tissue assessments and treatments that are performed while on a massage/treatment table.
If you live out of the area you can still receive effective therapy that includes somatic practices following the principle of myofascial release therapy. The primary principle being that we all have an innate healer within and with skilled guidance can access that healing capacity.
You will be taught how to perform self-myofascial release and other somatic practices to re-educate your muscles, improve mobility, and eliminate chronic pain.
