Somatic Movement
What is somatic movement and how can it help you?
Somatic movement education incorporates body-oriented practices to help clients with emotional, mental, and physical symptoms.
These practices help clients learn to develop greater self-awareness and trust, emotional regulation skills, skillful movement patterns, and improved capacity for presence, self-advocacy, and resilience.
Somatic practices can help with:
- Feeling disconnected from your body
- Feeling disempowered by the medical system
- Chronic anxiety and stress
- Trauma symptoms
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic pain
- Fatigue
- Sensory processing challenges
- Headaches and migraines
And many other presenting symptoms
How to get started with somatic movement practices
Radiance Therapy & Wellness is a somatic occupational therapy practice based in San Luis Obispo, CA. We offer in-office and Telehealth services in California.
Our somatic oriented programs generally start with curiosity questions and body inquiry about your presenting symptoms, goals and history. They also include body mapping to identify trailheads or indicators of parts of yourself that need attention and care.
You will learn specific and progressive movement patterns using a technique called pandiculation. Pandiculation is a natural, involuntary stretching and yawning that occurs after periods of inactivity to reset the muscles. When practiced voluntarily and consciously in specific muscle regions of the body, it in turn releases chronic muscle tension and relieves pain.
